A semi-circle of faces looks inward towards a group of masks raised on pillars. The masks represent destructive human impulses - greed, violence, dishonesty, cruelty - presented as performers before an audience.
Behind each outward-looking face is its reverse: a hidden, inward face, representing the private self, the conscience, held separate and unchanged. The audience observes, while the inner selves turn away, protected from what is before them.
The work explores the tension between witnessing and participating, between the public face and the inner self, which must be held apart.
